She works well with her peers. She is always a positive contributor to the classroom environment.” Avril is a member of our Math Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) Club here at school. She will be attending Mission College in the Fall, but is undecided on her major. She looks forwarding to exploring different disciplines and then deciding on a career path. Way to go, Avril! Mr. Strong is a Sylmar graduate, a student at Cal Poly, and an Eagle Scout! The Eagle rank is only earned by approximately 5% of all Scouts across the nation, so that is quite an honor. Our Advanced Placement Computer Science teacher, Mr. Antonio Nunez, has just received the following notification from the College Board: Congratulations! Your school has earned the College Board's AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for attaining female student representation in AP Computer Science Principles (CSP) for 2019. Out of 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses, 818 have earned the award. Yours is one of only 639 to be recognized for achieving this important result in AP CSP.

Sylmar Charter High School has been awarded the Bronze Safety Seal. The goal of the Employee Safety Seal Program is to help reduce employee injuries while celebrating schools’ commitment to safety. This distinction was earned for the following metrics: (1) No outstanding corrective action notices older than 180 days; (2) The OSHA recordable employee injury rate is at or below the District-Wide rate for fiscal year 2021-22; (3) Provided safety training to all teachers; and (4) Provided monthly safety training of custodial staff.

We are excited to welcome all families to the Spring semester of the 2022-23 academic year. We hope you and your family are staying healthy and safe! We thank you for collaborating with us and for ensuring your student stays on track by getting them to school as often as possible. Some absences are unavoidable. We understand that children will get sick and need to stay home occasionally. Your student should stay home sick from school or childcare if they have these symptoms: fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or above, cough/congestion. When absences occur, please complete an absence note and turn it in at the school.

California Online Voter Registration

In 2012, the Secretary of State launched California’s online voter registration application, which allows schools to provide students with the opportunity to register to vote online. Assembly Bill 113 allows 16- and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote. Pre-registrants are automatically converted to registered voters on their 18th birthday. In March 2017, pre-registration was made available through California’s online voter registration application, further expanding access to pre-registration.
